The San Diego State University (SDSU) Mens Rowing Club has promoted Assistant Coach for Novice Development and Recruitment, Chris Peters, to the position of Head Coach.
According to SDSU Mens Crew Club President, Matt Pawlak, In order to move our program forward, we have taken a hard look at how we deploy our resources. We have made changes that will align us with our goal of being a great collegiate rowing program, not just the good one we have been. He added, Our members and alumni have continued to express the desire to see major improvements in our program. Selecting Chris as our Head Coach reflects our commitment to do that!
John Walters, SDSU alumni rower commented, Chris Peters possesses many of the attitudes found in those young coaches who rise to the top. Walters added, Alumni can be confident that Peters doesnt just want to win, he has to win!
Alumni advisor Richard Dittbenner, noted, Chris will be working overtime in the days ahead to re-direct our training and racing program. He is a demanding coach who brings out the best in the rowers under his leadership. He inspires loyalty and commitment.
Expressions of confidence in the new attitude within the SDSU Mens program have come from other quarters as well.
According to Andrew Hoskins, Captain of the Canadian National Mens Eight, Chris is willing to integrate new and relevant ideas. He can take the team forward. He is not going to accept the status quo!
Hoskins comments are echoed by Dr. Ralf Kollmann, former Olympic Coach and Director of High Performance for the German Rowing Federation. On a recent visit with the SDSU Mens Crew, Kollmann noted, Chris is a leader. I can see that good things are going to come from him!
What does Peters think of his elevation to the top coaching position? I am going to develop this team to be the best that it can be! A smiling Club President Pawlak nodded approvingly, We hope so!
